A Week in a Week!

First day of Theater Club! This is me giving an overview of Melkhoutfonteins history.

I quickly grew a routine here in Melkhoutfontein- Mondays are my office days, on this day I usually am filling out my research report on the history of Stilbaai and Melkhoutfontein. I also work on choreo and touchups to the production. On Wednesday and Friday mornings, I am also in the office doing prep, for the kids that I will see in the afternoons. Sometimes I go over choreography by myself, and though I look a little silly dancing in a corner by myself it helps a lot to visualize, what I need to go over, or even change before the kids come. Rehearsals usually consist of singing, dancing, snacks, and games. I always look forward to these afternoons. The kids are so fun and learn so quickly!

Me and Leonard with a Green Johanna :)

On other days you can find me in Stillbaai installing Green Johannas for people back backyards, Green Johannas are bins for composting materials, the idea of the bins is to keep out mice, and therefore snakes! I love using the drill, and it's fun to teach the people I meet about the importance of composting and the process that goes into it. When composting you should divide your materials between 60% carbon and 40% nitrogen. I actually learned about this process in Greece last fall when we built a giant compost pile on my Birthday.  Who knew composting could be so fun?

This is the graffiti in the process of getting sanded down.

Tuesday and Thursday mornings are painting days, we go as high as we can reach re-vamping murals that couldn't be sealed due to COVID-19, this week we also worked on a mural that had been graffitied over. It was satisfying to get rid of the vandalism and restore the painting to its original beauty.
